Sunflowers & Storms

Listen, To the sunflowers singing When the sun embraces them On the morn of a biting cold. Squint at the sky While you’re blanketed By voids.

Listen,
To the sunflowers singing
When the sun embraces them
On the morn of a biting cold.
Squint at the sky
While you’re blanketed
By voids.
Watch with awe it’s colours
It’s hues
When it paints your skin.
Feel the water
caress your feet when you walk
Barefoot in the rain,
And the pricks of Winter
As she curls up beside you
With a cup of sunshine.
Feel light
And feel heavy.
Feel the drag, feel burdens,
Feel the darkness.
Soaring is paramount
As is feeling sand bury your feet
As tides bring waves.
For there is no way
you can cherish sweet
without bitter.
No way to grow
without being buried.
No way to befriend Darkness
If you keep running from it.
No way to be happy without ever being sad.

My experience of feeling negative emotions has always been amplified and I have always run away from them because I was scared I will become them, that they would start defining who I am, start dictating how I live my life. It took me a long time to understand that keeping myself in a bubble and trying to avoid feeling these feelings did nothing but worsen how I felt and how I dealt with day to day life. Hence, I decided I would not guard myself from sadness or disappointment or anything of that sort and rather give into the flow of the current and perhaps learn how to navigate my life better. And it has made a difference. Yes, I am still suspiciously cynical at times and horrifyingly paranoid, but I still feel calmer somehow; and that’s all I wanted.
